There is no cure for Parkinson’s Disease, but there is HOPE! Let CNW Improve Your Quality Of LIFE!

WHY BOXING: Medical studies on exercise and Parkinson’s have concluded that intense exercise can slow the progression of Parkinson’s disease. In other words, when exercise is done at a low rate, there is less benefit than when exercise is done that pushes or forces someone out of their comfort zone. Non-contact boxing movements prove to be the perfect modality. And it’s more fun to tell your grandkids that you’re going to BOXING CLASS!

And the program goes beyond exercises in the gym. “Improved fitness is only one of our goals for this program,” says Rosemary Gallagher, PT, D.P.T., Ph.D., associate professor in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at NYIT School of Health Professions. “Parkinson’s disease can be very isolating due to the physical manifestations of the disease. One of our primary goals is socialization, for both our boxers and caregivers.”
